First Half Of April 2023 Still Rain. Is It Safe To Do The Trek To Mount Rinjani?

Most areas in Indonesia are still dominated by light to heavy rain. Lombok Island is one of them.

According to data released by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which was released on the https://www.bmkg.go.id page, Lombok Island is one of the areas that has the potential for moderate to heavy rain in April 2023.

This rain was influenced by the presence of tropical cyclone 98S in the South Indian Ocean, Sumba. The convergence area formed by this system extends from Bali to the island of Timor and the Indian Ocean south of West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara. This system also induces wind speeds of up to more than 25 Knots.

The Rinjani Trekking Center's monitoring on the https://meteoblue.com page for the weather in the Mount Rinjani National Park area also indicates the potential for rain to still occur for at least the next 7 days. what about the real weather conditions in the field? Is it safe for climbing?

In accordance with daily monitoring, rain always falls during the day after 12 noon with light to moderate intensity. Mornings are always bright, even the peak of Mount Rinjani is always visible in the morning (monitoring from Senaru and Sembalun villages). Usually the fog starts to cover the peak after 10 am.

According to the Mount Rinjani National Parks Center, Mount Rinjani remains open and safe for climbing. Prepare a raincoat as well as a change of clothes and shoes.
