Mount Rinjani via the Sembalun route is closed every Friday.
The closure was carried out in connection with requests from the community and Sembalun community leaders not to make the climb to Mount Rinjani every Friday.
This is as quoted in Announcement Number PG.782 / T.39 / TU / KSA / 6/2019 concerning the closing of the Sembalun ascent every Friday.
“So that’s a consideration because Friday is a short day and people want to get a chance to worship,” explained the Head of the Gunung Rinjani National Park Office (BTNGR), Sudiyono when confirmed via telephone on Friday (6/21/2019).
For tourists who want to climb on that day, it is advisable to choose other climbing routes such as the Senaru, Timbanuh, and Aiqberik climbing routes.
“Diverted to another route, so still if you want to travel you can. This is specifically for climbing to Rinjani, if the tour around it is likely not to change,” said Sudiyono.
Previously, Climbing Mount Rinjani began to reopen on June 14, 2019. Four tracks were opened including the Sembalun, Senaru, Timbanuh and Aiqberik lines.
Hikers who will make the climb can register online through eRinjani.
BTNGR predicts that visits until September 2019 will be dominated by foreign tourists.
