rinjanitrekkingcenter.com, North Lombok – Mount Rinjani National Park Management (TNGR) recorded as of today, October 22, the total burnt areas in the volcano on Lombok Island, NTB, amounted to 6,055.3 hectares. The figure was obtained from the data compilation of the field observation and Sentinel-2 satellite. The head of TNGR Sembalun resort Taufik explained that his side had detected new hotspots. “It was located under the summit,” said taufik via WA group on Tuesday, October 22. The officer of Sembalun resort reported today at 06:30 Central Indonesian Time (WITA) that the hotspots were discovered near the intersection between Sembalun hiking trail and Bawak Nao hiking trail and at the northern of Mount Sangkareang towards Torean forest area.

According to taufik, steep terrains and high-speed winds hindered officers to extinguish the fire so that the blaze spread quickly, not to mention the lack of water sources. The smog also reached to the tourism site of Gili Trawangan, 60 kilometers west of Mount Rinjani.

Referred to TNGR data, vegetation taking the form of savanna, reeds, and dried leaves were flammable. Besides, trees that had fallen due to strong winds and caught fire harmed and hampered officers to put out the wildfire.
