Chinese Mount Rinjani National Park is currently partially open for trekking, with trekking activities subject to the latest regulations, safety conditions, and available quotas issued by Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani (TNGR).
However, the Torean trekking route is temporarily closed following a forest fire reported in the Torean Resort area.
Torean Trekking Route Temporarily Closed
According to the official announcement issued by Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani on 23 September 2026, a forest fire occurred at Bukit Setampol, Torean Resort, on 22 September 2026 at approximately 18:50 WITA.
As a safety precaution, the Torean trekking route has been temporarily closed effective 23 September 2026 until further notice.
TNGR is coordinating with relevant authorities and local stakeholders to manage and control the forest fire and assess the situation in the affected area.
During the temporary closure, visitors are advised not to use the Torean trekking route. TNGR is also strengthening monitoring, access control, patrols, and fire-prevention measures within the area.
What About Trekkers with Existing Torean Tickets?
Trekkers who already have an e-ticket for the Torean route from 23 September 2026 onward may arrange a reschedule or change of entrance and/or exit route to another available trekking route, subject to TNGR's instructions and available quotas.
Trekkers who are already on Mount Rinjani and had planned to exit through Torean may be directed by TNGR officers to exit through Sembalun or Senaru, depending on the situation and instructions given by officers in the field.Is Mount Rinjani Still Open for Trekking?
Yes. The current situation should be understood as a partial opening, rather than a complete closure of Mount Rinjani.
The temporary closure specifically affects the Torean trekking route. Other trekking routes remain subject to their respective regulations, quotas, and safety conditions issued by TNGR.
Because conditions and access regulations can change, trekkers should always confirm the latest status with their trekking operator before travelling to Mount Rinjani.
When Will the Torean Route Reopen?
At this stage, no reopening date has been announced.
According to TNGR, the decision to reopen the Torean trekking route will be based on the results of the evaluation of the forest-fire response and conditions at Bukit Setampol, Torean Resort.
The temporary closure will remain in effect until further policy is issued following periodic evaluations.
