According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), a heat wave is a period of unusually hot weather (hotter than usual) that lasts for two or more days.
This phenomenon can occur from several days to several weeks and is the dominant cause of death due to weather. According to the BMKG, the highest recorded this year was 45 degrees Celsius in several South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.
Scientists believe this phenomenon will become more common due to global warming and climate change. in fact one study says that dangerous heatwaves will occur between three and ten times more frequently by the turn of the century.
The good news, according to the BMKG, Indonesia is not one of the countries affected by this heat wave. several South Asian and Southeast Asian countries that were affected were: Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Laos and Myanmar.
Therefore, this phenomenon has no impact at all on climbing Mount Rinjani. Hikers only need to be aware of strong winds which generally occur at the turn of the rainy season into the dry season.
