Four Forest Waterfall Spots to Rejuvenate Your Soul

By Rhiannon Wilson February 13, 2026

Mount Rinjani never runs out of natural beauty to offer, either for first-timers or recurring outdoor lovers. One of the charms is a forest waterfall. Literally speaking, the term refers to waterfalls inside a forest. Indeed, you can discover at least four popular cascades in the mountainous area. It’s an all-in-one destination not just for natural seekers but also for adventure junkies.

Such a statement doesn’t arise without logical reasons. To reach Tiu Kelep forest waterfall, for instance, you need to undergo challenging, varied trails. You must cross a river and pass through slippery rocks and uneven jungle paths. Yet the journey is worth every drop of your sweat. The lush greenery will wash away your tiredness along the way.

The natural pool at the base of the waterfall will refresh your soul once you plunge into it. For that reason, this article invites you to explore what this cascade and other ones have to offer. Also, learn how to access those amazing natural spots as you hike to the summit. Keep scrolling down!

Can I swim in the Tiu Kelep forest waterfall?

Yes, you can swim safely in the calmer sides of the pool. A lot of tourists do the same thing once they arrive in the cascade. The water is clear, and the temperature is cold. Some visitors even soak in the pool, which is as deep as an adult’s waist in some areas. However, you should not swim right under the waterfall.

The 42-metre forest waterfall has strong pressure, which may push you quickly if you swim right beneath it. Tiu Kelep, or Seneru Fall, is very famous among the mountaineers. Besides its dense greenery scene, the spot has a mythical side. The locals believe those taking a bath or soaking in the pool will be forever young and lucky.

Three cascades for your waterfall bucket-list

In addition to the Tiu Kelep forest waterfall, the mountainous park and its surroundings host three other cascades, which are worth dropping by. They are Sendang Gile, Mangku Sakti, Benang Kelambu and Benang Stokel. These falls perform a lot of functions. They showcase the “soft side” of the dry, volcanic summit. The cascades provide the green, wet, and life-filled atmosphere throughout the area.

Moreover, the waterfalls provide fresh water that supports the irrigation system for the villages there. Farmers can rely on the cascades as sources of water, even during the dry season. From the cultural point of view, the local Sasak communities consider the cascades as sacred sites. See details of the three waterfalls below!

Sendang Gile forest waterfall

This waterfall is situated at Senaru village. It has two levels with 30 metres. The spot is easy to access, as you only need to walk for around 15 minutes from the entry gate. The waters are clear and refreshing, making the destination an ideal spot for relaxation. As you sit or play with the waters, immerse yourself in the tropical and mossy greenery all around.

Mangku Sakti

This forest waterfall earns its name as a “hidden gem” given its remote and rugged location. However, once you arrive, the cascade will wow you with its unique, milk-blue waters containing rich minerals. The cascade is located in the Sajang village, Sembalun region. You can reach the waterfall from Sembalun Lawang or East Rinjani Gate. If you come from Senaru or North Rinjani Gate, you will need to drive south and east.

Benang Kelambu and Benang Stokel

These waterfalls are usually put under one trip tour package, as their trails connect. They lie in the mountainous area at the Aik Berik village of Central Lombok. The Benang Kelambu forest waterfall is renowned for being a family-friendly, photogenic spot. On the other hand, Benang Stokel is taller; hence, it’s more suitable for those looking for adventures.

General safety and pleasure tips for visitors

Indeed, visiting a diverse range of cascades around Rinjani Mountain offers such a thrilling experience. Your heart longs for mingling with nature, clear water, and a canopy of trees. Specifically, for Rinjani, you would regret it if you skipped any of the cascades as mentioned above. However, bear in mind that the waterfalls are within the jungles in the area.

That means you need to consider the challenging terrains in the forest waterfall you will come across. Safety remains your top priority. Find practical and useful tips below so your adventure is secure and joyful!

  • Wear sturdy hiking shoes or trail sneakers with a strong grip because you will likely find slippery rocks and muddy trails along the trails.

  • Equip yourself with a walking stick to maintain your balance, especially for crossing rivers and steep descents.

  • You should not swim during or right after heavy rain because you may find strong and dangerous currents in the pools at the base of the waterfalls.

  • The dry season (April-October) is the safest time for reaching the forest waterfall in the area. If you look for a spectacular waterfall flow, come during the wet season (November-April), but the paths are more slippery.
