Published Date:

Mount Rinjani is currently partially open for trekking. Due to ongoing forest-fire conditions within the national park, the Senaru and Torean trekking routes are temporarily closed.

At present, trekking activities should be planned through the Sembalun route, subject to the latest TNGR regulations, available quotas, and safety conditions.

Latest TNGR Update

According to the latest official announcement from Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani (TNGR):

Announcement Number: PG.7/T.39/TU/KSA.04.01/B/09/2026
Date: 25 September 2026
Effective: 26 September 2026

TNGR reported that the forest fire occurring within the Torean Resort working area had, as of 25 September 2026 at 18:00 WITA, moved toward Pelawangan Senaru.

As a result, the Senaru trekking route is temporarily closed from 26 September 2026 until further notice.

Current Route Status

🔴 Torean Route — Temporarily Closed

The Torean trekking route remains temporarily closed following the earlier forest fire in the Torean Resort area.

Trekkers are advised not to use the Torean route until further notice.

🔴 Senaru Route — Temporarily Closed

The Senaru trekking route will be temporarily closed starting 26 September 2026 due to the developing forest-fire situation.

TNGR has specifically advised visitors not to use the Senaru and Torean trekking routes at this time.

🟢 Sembalun Route — Available Subject to Quota and Conditions

Based on the latest TNGR announcement, trekkers affected by the Senaru closure may reschedule or change their entrance and exit route to Sembalun until the affected routes are reopened.

Trekkers currently on the mountain who had planned to exit through Senaru or Torean may also be directed to exit through Sembalun, according to instructions from TNGR officers in the field.

What Should Trekkers with Existing Bookings Do?

Guests who already hold an e-ticket for the Senaru route from 26 September 2026 onward should arrange a reschedule or change of entrance and exit route to Sembalun, subject to availability and the applicable TNGR procedures.

If your existing trekking itinerary uses Torean or Senaru, please contact your trekking operator before travelling so that your itinerary can be reviewed and adjusted according to the latest official instructions.

When Will Senaru and Torean Reopen?

There is currently no confirmed reopening date for either route.

TNGR states that the reopening of the Senaru route will depend on the evaluation of the forest-fire response and conditions in the Senaru and Torean Resort areas. The closure remains in effect until further policy is issued following periodic evaluations.

At Rinjani Trekking Center, we continue to monitor official updates and instructions from Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani.

For guests with upcoming treks, we will check the latest route conditions and advise you if any changes to your trekking entrance or exit are required.

Route changes may affect your original itinerary, but they are necessary when access restrictions are introduced for safety and conservation reasons.
